Carnivore Diet 03/24/24
I have always been a large person. I heard about the carnivore diet previously but shrugged it off without giving it a second thought for years. It sounds insane to someone who has all the standard beliefs nailed down all over their brain. But, in the end of 2022, I watched the Shawn Baker interview on Joe Rogan. I started embracing it more and more. Turns out, the more strictly I followed it, the healthier I got. I have lost over 100 pounds, most of which occured in a 1 year period. I also no longer have breathing troubles and when I get sick, it never amounts to anything more than a little fatigue. I used to be the guy who got put out of commission by a cold and had bronchitis all winter long, and have since endured two winters with no issues. I suggest anyone with lingering health problems research it.
I always thought health food was out of reach because, since I can remember, most vegetables have induced vomiting for me. I was told stuff like stop being a wussy, etc. Now I view meats as a health food, and interestingly, since starting carnivore, I am more tolerant of vegetables, though I still rarely eat them. I can eat a salad now and again when I want to focus on weight loss which was not something I could tolerate before. There have been days I have eaten 10+ pounds of meat.
References I found extremely helpful, especially the first three:
Your health and corporate profits are usually mutually exclusive things. Addiction sells best. Think twice before you buy any food in flashy packaging. Also, while I don't feel great about eating animals, [pesticides and plant harvesting kill too]. I'm one of the few carnivore followers who is *for* the advancement of lab meats. I'd love to be able to essentially grow trees of meat and no sentient beings die for food. However, in the mean time I focus on eating meats from large animals, such as pig meat and cow meat, meaning less animal lives lost to feed people. I believe this to be the absolute rock bottom animal body count of any diet currently available. This is especially true when you start including bugs, because pesticides are bringing certain species (bugs AND animals) to the point of extinction:
Entire ecosystems are being thrown off-balance or destroyed by pesticides.
There are also more benefits to carnivore. If you are addicted to food, as I was, likely you are going to be buying expensive crap and a lot of it. Often the carnivore diet is seen as expensive. However, if you lean toward a pork diet, and you get your addictions under control, you will likely be eating for less than $10 USD per day. Also, my mental health is better, and my muscles are starting to get definition. My daily steps have 2x-3x'd. A few days recently I have exceeded 20,000 steps, without going for walks, and that was nowhere near the case before. That is to say these steps occur naturally as I work and live. I can also successfully fast for multiple days at a time for serious boosts in weight loss speed.
I believe weight loss to be far more about diet than exercise, for the simple reason, crappy diet makes you tired and potentially chronically ill and those things prevent exercise. Whereas exercise or lack thereof cannot change your diet, diet can cause lack of exercise. The times I took an unwanted nap in my previous health are embarrassing. I almost never crash anymore, and crashes are all a result of either stuffing my face until I can't move, which is rare and doesn't have negative effects anymore and I wake up fine, or I break my diet and eat crappy food, and in these rare cases I also get headaches and all the old stuff that used to happen. But as time goes on, incidents of eating crappy food dwindles.
My tips if you do decide to try carnivore, or even "ketovore":
- If you're feeling hungry, eat meat, in excess.
- If you're just starting out, eat meat in excess regardless.
- Not reaching hunger in the first place will greatly reduce your risk of craving processed garbage.
- Don't add too much in the way of flavorings, like sauces. They will cause you to come crawling back to garbage.
- In the same way a hit of Oxycodone will send an addict immediately back to his old ways, so too can bad food.
- You can cram down a ton of meats before gaining weight so long as you don't mix it with junk, so use this to your advantage.
- Same with keto: no shortcuts, don't try to eat a 'keto bread' thing to replace bread, cut it out cold-turkey.
- If carnivore doesn't work out for you, at least try regular keto next.
- Get the crack out of your house. Don't even BUY addictive stuff, [don't keep it as treats]. This is the quickest route back to the starting point. If you absolutely need snacks, try beef jerky, or cheese or something similar.
While I don't outright suggest a diet change as radical as carnivore to those who are without ailments, it does seem to help those are getting up there in age feel better, so it may be worth a try if this describes you.
I asked Mistral to give a list of carnivore benefits, in case there are things I did not think of or haven't affected me. Here is the result verbatim:

We are on the whole a very stupid and greedy species and both of these traits contaminate information before it reaches you.
